Enterprise software has some a long way even in just the past five years from a usability perspective and this is because great product and design teams are thinking about the end user with more empathy.
“Why does enterprise software suck?” DJ Patil, Head of Products at RelateIQ asked a roomful of designers.
Mainly, Patil said, it’s because IT usually makes decisions instead of users. But that’s changing fast, and RelateIQ is at the forefront of companies that are using design to help enterprise manage relationships and make smarter decisions. In the future, enterprise software will not only have to solve users’ problems, it will have a higher goal – delighting the user.
Karen Cross, UX Design manager at Atlassian, concurred, sharing that “For the enterprise: we design for the 100%, build flexibility into the product and enable designs to scale.” They rotate their developers through customer support to help reinforce and spread the culture of compassion for the end users.
